Andrew Flintoff has lent his support to England's bid to host the 2018 World Cup as they attempt to fight off competition from a number of other countries to land the prestigious tournament.

Australia, China, Netherlands and Belgium and Russia have already declared their interest in the event, but England are also hopeful of winning the vote and hosting the World Cup for the first time since their momentous victory in 1966.

A host of other sports stars have voiced their support and two-times Ashes hero Andrew Flintoff has added his name to the campaign, saying: "I am proud to show my support for England's bid to host the FIFA World Cup in 2018.

"I know from my own experience of playing in the Ashes how great it is to play in front of your own fans in a big event and having the World Cup in this country would be a once in a lifetime opportunity for all involved.

"We need as many people as possible to show their support by signing their name or uploading a photo on the flag at www.BT.com/2018, so please take two minutes of your time to show your support."
